There are a number of different markings, or badges, and we need to look at each. On this page we are just identifying what they are, and you will find from the list on the left you can select individual items.
The markings of a witch includes rings, pendants etc that they wear. This may be to just show the coven they belong to, or the branch of witchcraft or may be a power symbol, that is in effect a part of their magic being.
Many senior witches however do not wear any visible jewelry or markings, and two reasons are given for this, firstly that they do not wish to create the equivalent of religious trinkets, and secondly that they are able to wear the marks they wish to invisibly to people who are not senior witches.
Has so many meanings and is probably the most powerful symbol used by witches. The circle may be small as on clothing, or large as on the ground where it is used to mark a powerful boundary.
A circles major feature is that it is constructed of a continuous line, allowing no gap or way in, when fully formed.
Pentacles are probably the best known of all the witchcraft symbols. It has five points and is drawn like a circle with a continuous line. A pentagram is a pentacle within a circle.
Used only usually as a boundary or ground marker it forms a container, usually as a section within a magic circle.
A sign involving 3 loops known to have been used by early Celtic craftsmen, but probably far more ancient. It has been used by many as a protection symbol. recently it has become popular in many witchcraft circles because its use with a circle added, similar to a design published many years ago, and the one we use was chosen for the front of the book of shadows for the TV series charmed.
We use it as the sign of a particular sub circle within our covens, and a virtual coven.
